Pop Rocks & Parks: coming home to NYC to premiere music at the cell
Sybarite5 RETURNS HOME TO NYC FOR WORLD PREMIERES AT THE CELL
Sybarite5 celebrates the start of its 2013-14 season and fall tour with two world premieres at the cell:
The world premiere of Pop Rocks, written for Sybarite5 by Eric Byers and Parks for string quintet by Daniel Roumain are the featured works on the highly anticipated follow-up to Sybarite5’s cell residency last season. Also set for the show are works by Radiohead and Piazzolla. Sybarite5’s concerts have mesmerized audiences at NYC venues including Cargnegie Hall, the Apple Store, Lincoln Center, and the cell.
The October 11 concert kicks off the group’s annual residency at the cell and adds to a busy season that already includes a 16 state tour and multiple premieres. The residency continues December 11, 2013 with the world premiere commission from Andy Akiho.
Winner of the Concert Artists Guild Competition, Sybarite5 is comprised of superbly trained classical musicians: Sami Merdinian and Sarah Whitney, violins; Angela Pickett, viola; Laura Metcalf, cello; and Louis Levitt, bass. The players united with the goal of changing the perception of chamber music performance and have achieved it. As Sybarite5, they take their audience on an exciting ride with an eclectic blend of works and a dynamic, intensely personal performance style.
“…Their rock star status…is well deserved. Their classically honed technique mixed with grit and all out passionate attack transfixes the audience…”
